Question

How much is "a new one?"

This question causes a lot of friction between contractor and homeowner because from the homeowner's point of view it seems like the contractor never wants to answer the question and from the contractor's point of view the question is too broad to even communicate accurately and honestly. There's always a car analogy for anything we're trying to explain in HVAC and since you're probably much more experienced in buying and selling cars, imagine if someone who had never heard the price of one asked you "how much does a car cost?" Imagine trying to explain that there are some cars that you can get for virtually nothing while others can cost millions of dollars and both are a fair price. Imagine their eyes glazing over at this concept. We as HVAC contractors know this look very well. The same is true with this. There is almost no limit to how down & dirty you can get on price if you're up for letting some seedy characters into your home. If you know the right (or wrong) people you can get USED, leaky HVAC equipment installed caked in 30 years of someone else's dead skin and Marlboro tar. You can get dangerous HVAC equipment installed by people who have no business touching it. It won't cost you much. On the other had you could decide to get a $50,000 geothermal system, $100,000 masonry furnace, or $200,000 radiant marble floors installed in your home. They're all HVAC systems and from paying a handyman to scrap from a junkyard for next to nothing all the way up to the radiant flooring those are all fair prices. So with all that said we're going to actually answer the question that you've come here to ask. "How much for a new one?" In our experience, in Central Ohio, in 2024, using a reputable, licensed & insured contractor, the AVERAGE that we see for a full system (furnace and air conditioner) installed is about $14,000. Google is going to tell you a bit less but there are a couple things to keep in mind if you're a homeowner in northern states: Half the country rents so half the equipment being installed today is being bought by someone who does not care how well it heats or cools or how efficient it is. It only has to turn on enough to not get the landlord sued. They aren't interested in humidifiers, air filtration, or anything that might cost slightly more than it absolutely needs to to keep collecting rent. Landlords also buy multiple systems at a time so they can strike a deal for a lower average price in bulk. The other thing to keep in mind that half the country doesn't use furnaces at all so the equipment cost is far less when you average in the Southern states. According to Google the average new car is $49,500. Whatever you think about that number the same is true of an HVAC system at $14k. You could be happy with a lot less but when you consider all your options you may decide you want something more. Neither is a wrong answer. Regardless of your budget may be we believe that with Polar Bear Conditioned Air your dollar will go much further and we'd love if you gave us a chance to show you how.

Question

Do you offer financing?

Absolutely. More often than not people wait for their HVAC system to break to decide to purchase a new one. Homeowners are often caught off guard by this major expense and they're often in the middle of one or more other projects when it happens. Maybe that's what's brought you here today. We've found that offering lending options makes the decision less stressful even for people who have been saving up for the occasion.
